Asia/Pacific (Excluding Japan) 5G Incremental CAPEX Forecast, 2019–2023

By: Bill RojasAdjunct Research Director, IDC Asia/Pacific, Hugh UjhazyVice President, IoT and Telecommunications

Abstract

"As the Asia/Pacific region starts to roll out 5G services, the leading integrated and mobile operators in the region have already begun the process of migrating their network architecture to a cloud-native service architecture, which will become the foundation of future mobility," says Bill Rojas, adjunct research director, IDC Asia/Pacific. "In this way, 5G is having a pull-through effect by requiring much of the network core, and parts of the IT BSS/OSS to be upgraded and enhanced to support the high-speed, real-time services that 5G will enable."

"The early 5G adopters understand that it will take two to three years for all the parts to be in place in the new cloud-native 5G service architecture, but the ability to offer network slicing is a new and exciting opportunity for operators to better monetize the billions of dollars they have invested in fixed and mobile broadband infrastructure," says Hugh Ujhazy, telecoms VP, IDC Asia/Pacific.
