Leveraging Artificial Intelligence to Transform Asia/Pacific Education Institutions of Tomorrow

Abstract

Global education competitiveness is becoming more intense, notably in tertiary education and professional skills development. Such pressures are not just confined within domestic boundaries; they transcend to transnational hubs in which the race for the brightest minds and lucrative funding are aggressively pursued.

"Data-driven insights are supplementing traditional approaches to designing new learning paths and interventions for success. In addition, machine learning, assisted transactions, and chatbots have reached a point where they can deliver discernible benefits to institutions," notes Gerald Wang, head, IDC Asia/Pacific Public Sector. "As artificial intelligence (AI) competencies enable new ways of student engagements, both from an academic and administrative perspective, they also create challenges for institutions to support, integrate, and align a diverse set of applications, platforms, and architectures," he adds.

This study postulates unique features of AI that will help boost demand for education services, including:

  • AI solutions implemented to enhance classroom experience and meet students' progressive experiences of engaging with technologies
  • AI applications to advance learning via online courses
  • AI solutions to develop the effectiveness of institutional administrative management
  • AI skill sets creation and training within universities while in the process of developing innovative AI solutions

AI is expected to play a leading role in addressing these challenges and can help assist or automate in delivering learning outcomes to students. The ability of AI to integrate institutional silos across multiple departments and faculties provides the biggest benefit to institutions' digital transformation goals. Tangible examples, such as improving enrollment and finance functions, can make a considerable difference to students' "live, learn, work, and play" experiences within campuses.
