Data Explosion Requires Complete Data Availability and Management Strategies

By: Chayse GortonMarket Analyst, IT Services

Abstract

This IDC Perspective presents one of the themes that emerged at the VeeamON conference in May 2019 at the Fontainebleau, Miami Beach. This year's conference focused on educating attendees on data growth, data management, and cloud technologies. Attendees also learned how to set up a successful data availability and management strategy.

The rate of data creation is exploding, and the new-age datacentre is shifting from on-premise to cloud environments. The document provides recommendations of what organisations should include in a complete data availability and management strategy, as well as factors to consider in setting up a successful data strategy.

"Organisations need a complete data availability and management strategy as we live in a world where the datacentre is always on," says Chayse Gorton, market analyst, ANZ IT Services. Gorton's statement is supported by Veeam's customer research, which indicates that the downtime of a mission-critical application costs an organisation more than US$102,000 per hour on average.

"A complete data availability and management strategy addresses backup and recovery, replication, secure restoration requirements; ensures data mobility and visibility; and incorporates orchestration and automation best practices," he adds.
