This IDC PlanScape presents a digital transformation (DX) framework that enables mining companies to develop or improve their own road map for implementation of the agile mining operations strategic priority within IDC’s DX Taxonomy for Mining. Agile mining operations use cases represent a subset of use cases IDC Energy Insights has identified as key to DX. This strategic priority relates to how mining companies must transform their mining operations for greater insight, value chain and supply chain integration, and control.
"As mining companies apply data- and IT-related technology to increase visibility, automation, and control of their mining operations and supply chain process, the capacity to be agile becomes critical. This means the ability to respond to unexpected failure and change at the ore body, in the haulage line, within drill and blast, in management of stockpile and in the supply chains, and in all the decisions and processes in between. Miners should build or augment their agile mining operations road map by using the use cases in this document as a template. Although organisations can vary across many dimensions, such as industry segment, geographic location, or long-term goals, the ability to respond quickly to change while maximising efficiency is an important endeavour for all mining DX programmes," states Emilie Ditton, associate vice president, IDC Energy Insights.
