By: Jayesh VermaResearch Manager

On-line Presentation

This IDC presentation provides the status of the Internet of Things (IoT) market across utilities sector within the Asia/Pacific (AP) region. The study highlights the major growth drivers, factors that are influencing strategic decisions, inhibitors, and technology vendors. This presentation examines most recent IDC's Global IoT annual survey, IDC's Semiannual IoT Spending Guide, and the progress of utilities' companies within the Asia/Pacific region.

Utilities companies working in all part of generation, transmission, and distribution value chain are disrupted and demanding the transformation of physical technology foundation. IoT is particularly important in overcoming the challenges that utilities are facing in their digital transformation (DX) because of its ability to provide visibility into a challenging operational environment. Utilities that want to remain relevant in the crowded market are exploring IoT solutions and seeking support for technology integration in order to secure a holistic IoT solution with proven security capabilities. IoT deployment across utilities within Asia is accelerating, and IDC research shows that IoT spending by utilities within AP is expected to reach US$7.7 billion by 2023.

"If utilities' companies in Asia are to realize the full potential of IoT solutions that promise cost saving and efficiency gains, effective implementation of IoT is critical," says Jayesh Verma, research manager, Energy Insights, IDC Asia/Pacific.
