S/4HANA is at the core of SAP's vision of creating intelligent enterprises. S/4HANA is an intelligent enterprise resource planning (ERP) system than runs on an in-memory database called SAP HANA, which offers real-time processing speeds. Although more expensive and time consuming, greenfield implementations are the preferred approach for S/4HANA adoption among current SAP customers in Asia/Pacific (excluding Japan) (APEJ), making it a significant transformation undertaking for most enterprises. This IDC Market Presentation leverages data from the 2020 IDC Asia/Pacific (Excluding Japan) Business and IT Enterprise Services Sourcing Survey to examine if current SAP customers in APEJ share SAP’s vision of transforming to an intelligent enterprise with S/4HANA at the core and identify the key roadblocks in adopting a migration approach.
"The survey revealed that SAP’s customers in APEJ are divided into three clear groups. The first group, also the majority, are onboard with SAP’s vision of creating an intelligent enterprise with S/4HANA at the core. The second group plans to adopt a wait-and-watch strategy. Finally, almost a quarter of respondents are evaluating alternatives to S/4HANA," says Rijo George Thomas, senior market analyst, services and cloud research group, IDC Asia/Pacific.
