Scaling Beyond Connectivity Essential for the Communications Service Provider Role in Internet of Things Value Delivery
By: Yash Jethani Research Manager, Shaily Shah Independent Contractor, Hugh Ujhazy Vice President, IoT and Telecommunications
Abstract
The Internet of Things (IoT) service provider market and the ecosystem continue to be broad and complex, with new use cases explored as the pandemic unfolds. Communications service providers (CSPs) must identify strengths that are relevant to the local market and map them to the desired outcomes to position themselves uniquely. CSPs will need to be nimble and open about their IoT platforms to integrate, assemble, and customize different types of customer requirements.
"As the IoT ecosystem evolves and matures over time, CSPs will need to look beyond the connectivity-only offerings to create their differentiation strategies in the IoT value chain," says Yash Jethani, research manager for telecommunications, IDC Asia/Pacific. "The way to do is to collaborate more with a business outcome–focused approach with a good mix of IT, operational technology (OT), business, and thematic solutions, thus moving to a managed IoT services model," he adds.
