Role of Digital Twins in Asia/Pacific (Excluding Japan) Manufacturing Value Chains
By: Sampath Kumar Venkataswamy Research Manager, Sahadev Kadri Ananda
Abstract
IDC estimates that the current spend in Asia/Pacific (excluding Japan) (APEJ) on Internet of Things (IoT)–driven manufacturing applications is around US$11.1 billion. Data will be crucial to ensure that organizations can recognize and realize the value of metrics associated with underlying processes. Digital twins (DTs) in many ways have been a technology that enables manufacturers to leverage the collected data and expand their ability to remotely monitor and track operational performance. This IDC research document highlights the various applications of DTs while providing data points that indicate the current and expected level of technology adoption.
"Several organizations have DTs as part of their technology road maps, but the existing process gaps limit their scaling aspirations. The process to assimilate and consolidate data streams to provide a comprehensive operational outlook can be extremely demanding but necessary to extract meaningful and implementable insights," says Sampath Kumar Venkataswamy, research manager, IDC Asia/Pacific Manufacturing Insights.
