Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic brought about unprecedented changes across the globe. Within a short period, people had to adjust their way of life rapidly — from physically distancing with one another to wearing face masks — to contain the spread of the virus. To keep economies going while keeping people safe, businesses were forced to mandate remote work. Shortly, small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) had to reexamine their work initiatives and strategies to keep up with the new trends, behaviors, and demands brought about by this landscape.

This IDC Perspective covers the outlook of SMBs on the future of work, specifically concerning the three interdependent and interconnected pillars of augmentation, culture, and space. It also offers a glimpse of the challenges on the future of work that they have experienced and provides a reference for SMBs' future of work priority areas. Finally, the document gives insights into future of work technology investments that SMBs will be making in the next six to 24 months.
