Importance of Cloud in the Transformation of Utilities: Key Findings in the Utilities Industry
Abstract
This IDC Survey analyzes cloud adoption and priorities in the utilities sector in Asia/Pacific, mainly India, China, Australia, and New Zealand, and examines Asia/Pacific utility results from IDC's 2021 Industry Cloud Path Survey. The survey deals with cloud adoption, business drivers, challenges, benefits, mission-critical workloads, applications, and experiences with the cloud architectures of enterprises worldwide. It covered 2,020 enterprises worldwide, including 120 utilities companies (31 from Asia/Pacific).
Cloud deployment scales through private, public, hybrid, and industry cloud. Public cloud is gaining more traction, and according to IDC, public cloud services spending within Asia/Pacific (excluding Japan and China) (APEJC) utility companies is expected to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 18.4%.
"Utilities companies must leverage cloud computing technologies to drive business agility and conquer the current challenges that organizations in Asia/Pacific are facing. Cloud technology will play a key role in enabling utilities companies to meet their agile business needs from on-demand scalability to access to new functionalities," says Jayesh Verma, senior research manager, IDC Energy Insights.
