Abstract
This IDC Survey Spotlight discusses how public and private organizations in Asia/Pacific are using AI/generative AI (GenAI) and what specific sustainability/environmental, social, and governance (ESG) challenges are they trying to solve with these use cases. In this age of AI everywhere, organizations are exploring ways to leverage AI to enhance existing solutions or are experimenting on new AI-enabled tools. The collective hope behind organizations’ exploration and experimentation with AI/GenAI is to move the needle on time-sensitive sustainability objectives, such as net-zero commitments, which have a fast-approaching deadline of 2050.
"No CEO wants to be in the position to say that ‘we missed our net-zero target.’ There is a desperate need to speed up decarbonization across business operations because sustainability commitments of some large enterprises are set by 2035 or 2040. Companies are hoping that AI/GenAI will accelerate carbon emissions reduction efforts, that is why we are seeing these use case increases in sustainable transformation in business operations," says Melvie Espejo, Research Director, IDC Asia/Pacific Sustainable Strategies and Technologies.
