Business Strategy: Government Federal Civilian IT Forecast, 2016–2020

By: Shawn P. McCarthyResearch Director

This IDC Government Insights report provides a five-year IT spending forecast for major U.S. federal civilian agencies by major programs within those agencies and also lists the top IT solution areas. Civilian agency IT spending for the U.S. federal government will be just over $51.3 billion for FY17.

"With a budget of well over $12 billion, the Department of Health and Human Services is the clear growth leader going into FY17," said Shawn P. McCarthy, research director at IDC Government Insights. "HHS is starting to dwarf all other agencies in IT spending because of the growth related to a few legacy systems. It's a key example of the need to rein in legacy system spending within the federal government."
