CSPs of the Future: SD-WAN Service Launches and Plans in Canada

Author: Lawrence Surtees
Research Vice President, Communications

Abstract

This IDC study examines SD-WAN service launches and plans in Canada.

"Canada's major communications service providers are beginning to launch their first services based on the next-generation software-defined network (SDN) platform. But SD-WAN is just the tip of a looming iceberg," says Lawrence Surtees, study author and vice president of communications research at IDC Canada Ltd. "The combination of the three next-generation network technologies of SDN in the core network, with the addition of Network Function Virtualization (NFV) over the next one to three years, followed by deployment of true 5G wireless in the next four to five years, will completely transform every aspect of a CSP's business and communications services."
