IDC Innovators: Canadian Personal Health Record Systems, 2018

By: Mark SchruttStrategic Advisor, Public Sector & Innovation Research, Jason BremnerResearch Vice President, Industry and Business Solutions

Abstract

IDC Innovators are emerging vendors with revenue <$100 million that have demonstrated either a groundbreaking business model or an innovative new technology — or both. This IDC Innovators study profiles four personal health record systems vendors: ForaHealthyMe Inc., InputHealth, MedChart, and Self Care Catalysts. Each of the four innovators is taking a slightly different approach to this problem. The background of each of the founders is in medical, pharmaceutical, or consumer goods, or the founders have been personally touched by their own experience with the healthcare system. Each company has experienced similar challenges, including finding the right fit/business model, and the companies will individually need to build consumer adoption and a strong brand image. There are no doubt significant challenges in developing the personal health records market, but the real need is to fill the gaps and better connect patients and caregivers, which translates to opportunity.
