Outsourcing in an As-a-Service World: Implications of Cloud Services on Staffing

By: Jason BremnerResearch Vice President, Industry and Business Solutions, Vijay KumarSenior Analyst

Abstract

This IDC Perspective is one of a four-part series and examines the changes in the outsourcing model that will change as a result of cloud computing and cloud services. IDC worked with the Centre for Outsourcing Research and Education to assess this hypothesis, in terms of impact on people, pricing and costs, security and governance, and automation of service delivery.

"Staffing the right skills is often a challenge with the evolution of newer technologies in the industry. Cloud-related positions with specific skill areas around architecture and migration appear to be a challenge in the Canadian market," according to Vijay Kumar, senior analyst, Industry and Business Solutions. "The historical distinction of in-house and outsourced is going to dissolve in the 'As a Service' world, and outsourcing will be a key method to address cloud staffing challenges."
