By: Dave PearsonResearch Director and Team Lead, Infrastructure

On-line Presentation

Abstract

This IDC Market Presentation provides an analysis of Canadian brand perceptions of enterprise storage system (ESS) vendors. It is part of an annual series of brand perception documents that cover the various infrastructure hardware markets in Canada. Brand awareness, along with customers' perceptions, was measured against 10 key buying criteria used for evaluating vendors when purchasing storage hardware.

The purpose of this survey was to discover what buying criteria are most important to customers evaluating storage purchases among the following:

  • Strong workload performance
  • Infrequent product failure
  • Ease of integration
  • Quick recovery from failure
  • Good scalability
  • Low TCO/support costs
  • Breadth of product offering
  • Support for common standards, protocols, and interfaces
  • Low purchase price
  • Cloud interoperability

The document also examines how Dell EMC, Hitachi Vantara, HPE, IBM, NetApp, and Pure Storage each measures up against the top buying criteria.
