Canadian Consumer TV Services Forecast, 2019–2023

By: Manish NargasSenior Analyst, Consumer and Mobile Research, Lawrence SurteesResearch Vice President, Communications, Meng CongSenior Analyst, Measurement and Forecasting

Abstract

This IDC study examines the forecast for Canadian consumer TV service subscribers and revenue. It also addresses the factors shaping the market as well as the key drivers and inhibitors underlying the forecast.

"As service providers continue to compete to bring parity between different TV technologies to offer the best QoS and most premium features using next-gen technologies, they should remain very cognizant of the increased costs being forwarded to Canadian consumers, especially as the consumer wallet continues to be challenged for dollars with a new wave of competing OTT service offerings entering the Canadian marketplace with much desired video content," says Manish Nargas, analyst for Consumer Services and Mobility. "While not all OTT video offerings are expected to compete directly with traditional TV services and some are rather complementary to TV service (especially if integrated), a handful are expected to bring with them exclusive content on exclusive platforms, threatening to pull consumers away from traditional TV platforms altogether."
