Innovation Takes Different Forms: Canadian Government-Funded Innovation Accelerators

By: Mark SchruttStrategic Advisor, Public Sector & Innovation Research, Jason BremnerResearch Vice President, Industry and Business Solutions

Abstract

This IDC Perspective features three different centres that share the objective of driving Canadian innovation. Innovation takes many forms. It is found in years of research for new vaccines or a Starbucks employee who thinks of a better way to handle mobile orders. In the 21st century, innovation has expanded well beyond academia and publicly funded research institutions and into the hallways of Corporate Canada and accelerators located in most large Canadian cities.

"There are well over 100 hubs in Canada. And like innovation itself, these accelerators take various shapes," says Mark Schrutt, strategic advisor, Innovation and Public Sector Research.
