Crisis to Recovery: COVID-19's Transformation of Canadian Government

By: Mark Schrutt, Jason BremnerResearch Vice President, Industry and Business Solutions

Abstract

This IDC Perspective looks at a series of factors critical to the Canadian government and what will change and what may not once we move from crisis to recovery. There was a collective pause, followed by a tremendous vacuum that swept away millions of jobs, dried up consumer demand, and left businesses on the verge of bankruptcy. It took a bit of time to appreciate the magnitude of what was happening, but shortly after, the public and private sectors began to respond to the COVID-19 situation. The crisis drove the government to stand up a new type of Canadian workforce in just a few short weeks.

"Over the past two months, we have moved from crisis to recovery as 2020 marked a change to the way we live and the future of many industries and marked an end of an era for some companies," says Mark Schrutt, strategic advisor, Public Sector and Innovation Research at IDC.
