Blueprint to Data-Driven Organizations and Data-Informed Decision Making

By: Mark SchruttStrategic Advisor, Public Sector & Innovation Research, Jason BremnerResearch Vice President, Industry and Business Solutions

Abstract

This IDC Perspective outlines nine processes that establish the framework to increase the reliability and trust of data in decision making. Most processes, like records and storage management, are not unfamiliar to an organization, but are heightened in the age of data. Others, such as when technology stops and humans take the reins of decision making, are unique to AI and will be a new consideration for most every organization.

The stages that lay the foundation of a data-driven organization are also outlined. Last, the path to becoming more focused on data and using insight to help make decisions is complex and fast moving.

"The platform for good decision making actually has less to do with technology and data and more to do with best practices, governance, people, and leadership," says Mark Schrutt, strategic advisor, Innovation and Public Sector Research.
