On-line Presentation

Abstract

This IDC Survey examines the adoption status of Internet of Things (IoT) solutions among medium-sized and large organizations in Canada. It provides insights to the IoT vendor ecosystem to better understand the relative maturity by solution and by industry, enabling more precise marketing, communications, and sales. The analysis encourages Canadian businesses to benchmark their progress against their local industry peer group.

High-level findings include:

  • Adoption of IP-based connected solutions ("IoT") is very common in Canadian businesses, whether named "IoT" or just considered part of the business workflow.
  • There is wide variation between industry segments in their adoption maturity, and vendors need to match marketing/sales accordingly. This document examines the vertical segments in depth.
  • Adopters of IoT solutions tend to adopt even more IoT solutions as they try to evolve through their digital transformation.

Please note that this data is from late 2019 and predates the COVID-19 pandemic. IDC believes that it is still useful to understand the baseline of where Canadian organizations both public and private were with IoT at that time, but readers should understand the differences in circumstances between then and now.
