IoT in Canada Survey, 2019: Learning from Failure

By: Nigel WallisResearch Vice President, IoT and Industries

On-line Presentation

Abstract

This IDC Survey analyzes IDC's latest primary research on the Internet of Things (IoT) in Canada. In Summer 2019, IDC surveyed 310 IT decision makers about their organization's IoT deployment plans by industry-specific solution. For the first time, we asked those senior IT decision makers about failed deployments as well as adoption plans.

It turns out? While IoT is common within the Canadian enterprise IT landscape, so is failure. Canadian organizations have now been deploying IoT projects for long enough to be able to study the prevalence and cause of IoT project failures. IoT vendors and CIOs can learn lessons from those that have already experienced the growing pains of this emerging technology. This survey outlines which segments of the Canadian market are more or less likely to experience IoT deployment failures, what level of maturity sees more failure, and which KPIs they use to establish failure.
