China Gaming Market End-User Survey, 2018

Abstract

This survey aims to study Chinese gamers’ game preferences and habits and covers client games, web games, mobile phone games, PC single-player games, and other market segments. Through an online survey, the research distributed the 2018 Game Industry Survey Questionnaire on several of the most visited websites in China. The questionnaires were filled out and uploaded online by the public. A total of more than 100,000 questionnaires were received.

The China gamer scale continued to grow in 2018, which reached 625.7 million and achieved a 7.3% year-over-year (YoY) growth rate. Thanks to the fast expansion of mini-games within mobile applications, such as WeChat, the mobile gamers scale embraced a 9.2% growth and reached 605.9 million, which took up 96.7% of the total gamer base. Both PC client and web game markets witnessed a shrink in their gamer base because of insufficient game products and the pressure from other leisure products, including short-video platforms.
