Intel Partners with Baidu to Develop Nervana Neural Network Processor for Artificial Intelligence Infrastructure

Abstract

Intel said the processor NNP-T (codenamed Spring Crest), developed in collaboration with Baidu, could speed up large-scale distributed training and optimize image recognition. The NNP-T has a redesigned cache structure, allowing software to hold blocks of data in the chip’s cache with consequentially faster compute on AI mathematical operations.

IDC believes that the cooperation between Intel and Baidu will be a win-win situation. With close cooperation with Baidu, Intel can rapidly develop the NNP-T for the scale of China's artificial AI market, better push the Intel Nervana platform, and optimize it for the growing AI market. Baidu can better enhance the efficiency of its underlying infrastructure, promote the innovative development of large-scale neural network training, and accelerate the deployment of technology for AI applications.
