This IDC Presentation examines the current situation of China's cloud-native market, analyzes its ecosystem and technologies as well as the development trends. This study also provides recommendations on China enterprises' cloud-native journey.

Under the joint promotion of the macro-policy guidance and micro-technology development in China, the digital economy has developed extensively. The 14th Five-Year Plan points out that the value-add of core industries in the digital economy as a percentage of gross domestic product (GDP) will increase from 7.8% in 2020 to 10% in 2025, which means that the core industries of the digital economy will grow at an average annual rate of about 11%. Against the background of a vigorous development of the digital economy and the deepening of digital transformation (DX), digital innovation ability has become the core competitiveness of enterprises. The process of digital innovation is also a process of development of applications and software, which, either as the operational support system for business or delivered to customers as final products, helps enterprises better serve users and generate value. As an important way and means to support the digital innovation of enterprises, applications are facing all-round upgrades. At present, enterprise applications feature huge quantity, rapid changes, and variety, and adopt modern development methods centered on cloud native, which meet the needs of digital innovation and help enterprises produce and disseminate products and services at an unprecedented scale and speed. IDC expects that by 2024, the proportion of new production-grade cloud-native applications in new applications will increase from 10% in 2020 to 60% due to the adoption of technologies such as microservices, container, dynamic orchestration, and DevOps. By then, cloud-native applications will become important workloads in enterprises.

Lizzie Li, assistant research director of Enterprise Research Department at IDC says, "China's cloud-native market has flourished in recent years, and the concept of cloud native has been widely disseminated and begun to be noted by traditional enterprises, with rich cases and application use cases in finance, manufacturing, government, communications, retail, and other industries. In the future, more and more new applications will be generated on the cloud-native platform, and suitable traditional applications will gradually become cloud native. Enterprises should actively embrace this change and adopt cloud-native technologies and practice routes in stages according to their own situations, achieving the ultimate optimization and innovation based on small-scale practice. Cloud nativity means not only changes in the development mode, but also involves the adjustment of the organizational structure, adaptation of corporate culture, cultivation of talents, and innovation of the corresponding assessment system. Thus, it should be regarded as an important part of DX and future innovation of enterprises andincluded into the overall digital strategies of enterprises.".
