This IDC study presents a five-year forecast for the SDS-CS storage software market based on IDC's EMEA Semiannual Software Tracker Data from December 2016.
"Software-defined storage is emerging as one of the biggest disruptors in the storage market. SDS-CS solutions — the software stack that runs an SDS system — are built to deliver the full suite of storage services and functions via a software layer that uses commodity hardware, thereby saving enterprises costs on proprietary hardware components and helping them achieve a higher degree of automation," said Archana Venkatraman, senior research analyst, IDC European Storage Research. "Although still a small subsegment of the storage software market in Europe, SDS-CS is projected to grow at a 23.7% CAGR through to 2020 and will remain the fastest-growing software segment in the European storage market, thanks to its scale and cost-efficiency suitable for 3rd Platform workloads."
