Oracle OpenWorld 2017: Users Discuss Their Journeys to Cloud

Author: Douglas Hayward
Associate Vice President

Abstract

IDC spent several days in October 2017 at Oracle OpenWorld — the main global event for the software provider — talking to Oracle customers, executives, and partners. Drivers of SaaS adoption include scalability, speed of deployment, better process design, and cost reduction. The main challenges were around communication and stakeholder buy-in, dealing with rapid change, learning to accept highly industrialized operations, and the need to design occasional workarounds. Overall, customers seemed to feel that the move to cloud prompts Oracle to listen to them more intently than previously, with recent innovations such as the introduction of "success managers" significantly strengthening some relationships.
