On-line Presentation

This IDC Survey analyzes blockchain adoption among small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) in Western Europe in 2018. It examines blockchain awareness among SMBs and the purposes for which these companies are using or planning to use this technology.

The presentation is based on the results of the IDC European Vertical Markets Survey 2017, which involved 1,967 companies with more than 10 employees in over 86% of the European economy (France, Germany, Italy, Spain, the Netherlands, the Nordics, and the U.K.). The results in the presentation come from respondents with fewer than 500 employees (955 companies).

"The survey shows that there is a widespread need for education on blockchain among SMBs, as it has been, so far, mainly a large-companies affair. Awareness is increasing, but deployment is at its very early stage among the whole small companies' market. SMBs in Western Europe are using or are planning to use blockchain for different purposes, the most important being regulatory compliance, automating and tracking transactions, and data security and integrity," says Carla La Croce, senior research analyst, IDC Customer Insights and Analysis.

The company size classes considered are:

  • Very small companies (10–49 employees)
  • Small companies (50–99 employees)
  • Low-end, medium-sized companies (100–249 employees)
  • High-end, medium-sized companies (250–499 employees)
