This IDC Survey examines European healthcare organizations' cloud priorities, challenges, benefits, priority investment areas, and experiences with cloud architecture, conducted among 85 healthcare institutions in eight European countries. IDC analyzed business initiatives driving healthcare providers' cloud adoption and how cloud is prioritized at a strategic level.
This study presents the highlights of the analysis, which indicate that although cloud solutions adoption aligns with the industry's need to be flexible, collaborative, data-driven, and patient-centered, healthcare providers are still reluctant to adopt them. Privacy and cybersecurity are key challenges that affect cloud services adoption outside the premises of the healthcare organization.
Considering infrastructure and storage together with applications' cloud deployment, there seems to be a positive trend toward innovation in a small scale (pilots). Smaller innovation and digital transformation projects are successful, but once they scale and are deployed enterprisewide, problems arise with identifying and managing benefits such as increased efficiency and growth.
