This IDC Survey document summarizes the results of an IDC survey of near-term business outlooks, general digital investment structure and plans, business priorities, and ownership of IT budgets among European life sciences organizations. The data analyzed in this document comes from the life sciences sample of IDC's European Vertical Markets Survey, 2018–2019. The life sciences sample consisted of 127 respondents across 13 European countries.
IDC's annual European Vertical Markets Survey investigates IT solutions, investment priorities, and emerging technologies. This year, the sample covers over 77% of the European economy (in terms of GDP of 40 countries), with the inclusion of Russia, Poland, and the Czech Republic. The results are analyzed by vertical market and company size, and they will be the basis for a series of demand-side reports to be published under the European Vertical Markets and European Small and Medium Business Markets services, as well as in select European Insights research services.
"The business prospects and digital spending outlooks for European life sciences organizations are, overall, promising both in Western Europe and Central and Eastern Europe, with over half of the surveyed organizations expecting their external IT spending to grow in 2019. Innovation is high on the agendas of Western European companies and is expected to get a solid budget share in 2019. Innovation plans are relatively modest among CEE organizations, hindered by financial and human resource hurdles; they focus more on immediate business priorities and technology investment needs." — Senior Research Analyst Nino Giguashvili, IDC Health Insights Europe
