Business vs. Security in Cloud Adoption: A Battle With no Winner?

By: Konstantin RychkovSenior Research Analyst, Software, Western Europe

Abstract

This IDC Survey Spotlight examines the risk tolerance of European organizations regarding cloud adoption, looking at both compliance and security issues associated with migration. It presents data from IDC's global CloudView Survey, which found that most Western European organizations are ready to trade resilience for cloud benefits associated with lower costs, flexibility, and decreased complexity of IT. This IDC Survey Spotlight investigates the evolution of cloud security sentiment and contrasts countries regarding the drivers behind their choices. "General acceptance of cloud as a fairly secure environment requires a change of technology focus and adjustments to go-to-market strategies of security providers," says Konstantin Rychkov, research manager, European Security Solutions at IDC.

IDC's 2018 CloudView Survey examined responses from 1,350 organizations across Western Europe, including Austria, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, and the U.K. Respondents were from IT operations and management roles as well as line of business. More than half of respondents (53%) work for organizations with 100-999 employees, 43% work for organizations with more than 1,000 employees, and 4% work for organizations with fewer than 100 employees. Respondent organizations come from a wide spread of different industries. The survey was carried out in March and April 2018.
