This IDC Survey analyzes a portion of the 2018 IDC Energy Insights Annual Survey for the European oil and gas (O&G) industry. The survey was carried out between July and October 2018 and targeted managers with IT responsibilities. It analyzes data for oil and gas companies across 13 European countries (France, Germany, the U.K., Italy, Spain, the Netherlands, Denmark, Finland, Norway, Sweden, the Czech Republic, Poland, and Russia) from the upstream, midstream, services, and downstream segments. The presentation focuses on business outlook, IT budget allocation, external IT spending plans, leading business initiatives that influence IT decisions, and information security priorities among O&G companies across Europe.
"O&G companies have been talking about digital disruption, but most of them do not have clear vision and strategy about their digital transformation journeys. The stepping stone is a modern IT architecture; some are trapped in legacy systems/infrastructures while some are only making ad hoc IT investments to fix short-term business needs. Rather, O&G firms must be digitally determined, with long-term structured IT plans aligned with their corporate goals, to be able to develop much-needed agility and resilience," said Gaurav Verma, oil and energy research manager, IDC Europe.
