This IDC Survey examines the digital transformation (DX) priorities and 2019 investment plans of European life-sciences organizations. The survey results are examined in depth from different angles, looking into current adoption and near-term investment plans for the technologies that will be instrumental for life-sciences companies to achieve excellence in digital transformation. The study analyzes organizations' DX plans and efforts across the three primary segments of digital transformation in life sciences: life-sciences omni-experience, operational scale and agility, and the operationalization of data and information.
The data analyzed in this document comes from the life-sciences sample of IDC's European Vertical Markets Survey, 2018–2019. The sample consists of 127 respondents in 13 European countries. IDC's European Vertical Markets Survey is a major annual study of IT solutions, investment priorities, and emerging technologies. This year, the sample addressed more than 77% of the European economy (in terms of GDP), including the Russian, Polish, and Czech markets.
"Operational excellence is a principal focus for European life-sciences organizations. But, as the industry moves forward to find new paths to innovation to assure long-term sustainability, the strategic emphasis is shifting toward a new customer-driven mindset. Organizations are seeking to radically transform customer experience and expand engagement with all stakeholders across the ecosystem — particularly patients, the ultimate beneficiaries of the industry's efforts. Companies are also intensifying efforts to leverage advanced technologies to create effective digital platforms for collaboration and data integration." — Senior Research Analyst Nino Giguashvili, IDC Health Insights Europe
