European 5G Backhauling Forecast, 2019-2023

By: Bruno TeytonResearch Director, EMEA Telecommunications and Networking, John DelaneyAssociate Vice President, European Mobility

Abstract

This IDC Market Forecast provides the forecast for the 5G mobile backhauling in Western Europe and in Central and Eastern Europe between 2019 and 2023. The market will grow to $1,099 million in 2023, and forecasts are broken down into routing, optical, and wireless backhauling.

"Early 5G deployments will require increased capacity generated by access network speeds. But in the long term, backhauling transformation will be at the center of telecommunications operators' spending. As we look ahead, we see increased demand in cost-per-bit reduction, scalability, increased performances in the higher spectrum bands, and programmability to meet the requirements of ultra-low-latency uses cases," said Bruno Teyton, senior research director, IDC Europe, Telco 2025.
