Health IT in the Fight Against COVID-19: Enabling Resilience, Accelerating Digital Transformation
This IDC Perspective analyzes ICT solutions adopted by countries that have early experiences with COVID-19 and identifies related challenges and lessons learned. The study analyzes the role of digital technologies in implementing public health policies and in supporting hospitals' capacity surge.
"Digital tools have immense potential to enable a sense-detect-predict ecosystem that is essential in epidemic preparedness and management strategies," said Silvia Piai, research director, IDC Health Insights. "Our research shows that, to increase the resiliency of their organizations, healthcare IT decision makers should focus on four key workstreams: nerve centers' information quality and integration, ICT infrastructure redundancy and modularity, workforce protection and empowerment, and patient and population engagement. When working on these areas, health IT decision makers must look for simplicity, leveraging easily available resources and skills, and think about how to use them across different settings and use cases in a robust, safe, and efficient way."
