The Expanding Role of Colocation in Delivering IT Excellence in Europe

By: Andrew BussResearch Director - European Enterprise Infrastructure

Abstract

This IDC Market Perspective examines the extent at which colocation datacenter services are being adopted in Europe and the types of companies embracing this approach most strongly. It analyzes the benefits that these third-party datacenter service providers can offer to enhance and accelerate IT service delivery. It also discusses how IT infrastructure vendors can work with colocation providers to offer additional options and value to customers.

"Digital services are being developed to deliver modern and increasingly automated customer/work experiences and intelligent business operational systems. These depend on having state-of-the-art infrastructure hosted in matching facilities, but many enterprise datacenters are increasingly suffering from hidden technical debt, which makes it hard for IT to deploy new apps and services to respond to changes in the market," said Andrew Buss, research director, European Enterprise Infrastructure at IDC. "To combat the cost and time required to modernize datacenter facilities, the most advanced companies are turning to colocation providers to gain access to service provider–class datacenters and connectivity that a constantly connected, always-on digital enterprise needs."
