Abstract

This IDC Market Forecast describes the size and growth of IT professional employment by job role for 2018 to 2023. It includes our forecast across 40 different job roles, analyzes key factors influencing IT professional employment, summarizes survey results highlighting the impact of the lack of IT professional skills on organizations. It also shows the impact of COVID-19 on the employment forecast.

"COVID-19 has led to high unemployment numbers across Europe. However, technology jobs have been relatively shielded. The pandemic has increased organizations' dependency on technology to serve customers and continue operations. It has brought into focus the role of technology in creating agile, resilient organizations, and the need for critical IT skills to adopt new technologies. The war for IT talent will continue, but there is an opportunity to upskill and reskill the European unemployed workforce in IT to lessen the skills gap," said Marianne Kolding, vice president, European Skills: Leadership and Capabilities for Digital Transformation research.
