This IDC Perspective illustrates how NHS National Services Scotland designed and delivered a vaccine scheduling and management system to rapidly distribute COVID-19 vaccines safely and effectively to its 5.5 million citizens across the country. To achieve national vaccination plan goals, NHS Scotland was required to quickly and effectively leverage technological capabilities to set up, launch, and accelerate vaccine distribution at the national level. To this end, NHS National Services Scotland has been able to leverage existing resources and partnership with IT solutions suppliers.
"Healthcare digital acceleration during the pandemic should not be seen just as increased adoption of technology, but as a new, agile-inspired approach to digital transformation, aligning IT capabilities to the needs of the clinical workforce and constantly driving greater patient value at each iteration," said Silvia Piai, research director, IDC Health Insights.
"NHS Scotland is an excellent example of how transformation can be achieved in a matter of weeks, and how a crisis scenario can turn into a catalyst toward greater agility, integration, and coordination of resources nationwide. The future of patient engagement and business innovation for European healthcare providers lies in the ability to apply these lessons and plan a strategy ahead," said Giulia Besana, research analyst, IDC.
