Working from Home: The Continuum of Employer Responsibilities

This IDC Perspective provides an overview and analyzes the legal obligations of employers and employees in light of the emerging work-from-home paradigm. Since the pandemic started in 2020, the most profound change in our business is what happened to the workplace. Working from home (WFH) will become a hybrid workplace post-pandemic, and its different variations will quickly develop into a hybrid continuum. However, the obligations of employers and employees in legislation and agreements are generally not dependent on where the work is carried out. Their responsibilities regarding ergonomics, health, wellness, and safety are the same, and all parties need to adapt their policies and ways of supporting employees accordingly.

"We can expect legislation and collective agreements to catch up with the rapid change in the workplace, but for now, organizations will need to face two facts — the rules and regulations regarding the workplace are far-reaching in all European countries, but they are also different in each country.
