How Well Do IT Training Vendors Do What Training Buyers Value in Europe?
This IDC Survey Spotlight analyzes results from IDC's Global IT Skills Survey in April 2021. Data is based on 554 respondents across seven European countries. In the survey, we asked IT professionals and leaders involved in buying IT training for themselves and for employees to rank the importance of various elements of training offerings and capabilities — and to evaluate how well training vendors perform on these elements.
The importance of skills to business and IT success has never been greater. The skill of IT organizations contributes more than 40% of the improvement enterprises attribute to their digital transformation (DX) initiatives, suggesting that skill and technology investment must be considered together to get the most impact from DX investments. Possibly more importantly, organizations with strategically aligned development programs experience increased reliability and visibility and reduce the impact of the IT skills gap on project delays by an average of 33%. This has elevated the importance of IT training as DX efforts have accelerated.
"Our survey shows that European training buyers are generally happy with the performance of their training providers — certainly on the aspects that matter most to them," said Marianne Kolding, vice president, European Skills: Leadership and Capabilities for Digital Transformation at IDC. "As our survey shows, ensuring that IT professionals have the right skills is critical for organizations aiming for digital resiliency, so training is increasingly seen as an investment, not a cost factor."
