How Does Edge Computing Rank Among the Networking Challenges of European Enterprises?

By: Bruno TeytonResearch Director, EMEA Telecommunications and Networking

Abstract

This IDC Survey Spotlight provides insight into how enterprises consider edge computing in their networking challenges. The document contains data from IDC's European Enterprise Communication Survey, conducted in May 2021. The purpose of the survey was to analyze networking projects, priorities, and concerns in LAN, WAN, UC&C, and CPaaS. The 1,305 respondents were from 12 countries in Western Europe as well as Central and Eastern Europe.

"Edge computing ranks the lowest among networking challenges. This result means that enterprises have just started their edge computing journey, and they focus on compute, storage, and AI before considering networking. But with new use cases and an increasing amount of data, the most mature companies have already started to rearchitecture their LANs and WANs to prevent network congestion and improve efficiency," said Bruno Teyton, senior research director, European Networking and Life-Cycle Services, IDC EMEA.
