By: George MironescuSenior Research Manager, Accelerated Application Delivery & European Cloud Platforms

This IDC Survey Spotlight provides insights into how organizations in Europe plan to evolve their budgetary allocations for software development/delivery in 2022 compared with 2021. It presents organizations' spend intentions, providing details on the share of organizations that will increase, maintain, and decrease budgets. It also details the depth at which organizations plan to make changes to their investment allocations relative to 2021.

This document contains data from IDC's EMEA Accelerated App Delivery Survey that was conducted between July and August 2021 using a computer-aided telephone interview (CATI) method. The purpose of the EMEA Accelerated App Delivery Survey is to explore topics related to application and software development/delivery, including investment priorities, challenges and pain points, cloud native, DevOps, GitOps, DevSecOps, observability, open source, software development, and developer sourcing strategies. The survey solicited replies from over 400 IT, DevOps, and app dev/delivery leaders across 11 European countries (Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Spain, Sweden, and the U.K.).

"As everything becomes software and competitive battles shift to the digital space, many organizations are growing their budgets for software development and delivery to be able to compete. Furthermore, a notable portion of these organizations are weaponizing themselves with software development and delivery capabilities, indicating plans for budgetary allocations of more than 20% higher than what they allocated for 2021," said George Mironescu, senior research manager, Accelerated App Delivery Europe.
