The Foundation for Health Intelligence: The Road Ahead to Smart IT Infrastructure
This IDC Presentation was delivered during an IDC event about the role of IT infrastructure for the European healthcare provider. The event was held in Zaltbommel, Amsterdam, on September 29.
In the fight against the pandemic, decision makers need accurate and real-time information. To understand and anticipate demand on health and care services, they need a robust picture of the virus, how it is spreading, where it might spread next, and how that will affect healthcare services. A complex and wide array of sources already capture much information, but staying ahead of the virus requires streamlining the way this information is used. Without a single place to gather and analyze this data, decision makers are unable to move as quickly as needed.
The aim of this presentation is to push investments in IT infrastructure to develop intelligent health and untap the value of data.
Healthcare organizations are tasked to run hundreds of workloads such as electronic health record (EHR), picture archiving and communication system (PACS), population health, and telemedicine analytics that require scalable, flexible, and secure infrastructure. The critical challenge for CIOs and their IT teams is to navigate this transition period in a way that enables them to maximize new technologies without jeopardizing the ongoing resilience and security of existing business workloads. It's about managing the virtual environments and streamlining/redefining workflows with minimal disruption.
