Abstract

This IDC Web Conference is a presentation of Nordic trends and insights in 2022 and beyond for the IT industry. Sustainability is a broad term for maintaining a specific rate or level and must be discussed and interpreted in a human, social, economic, and environmental context. Nordic countries have similar open approaches and distribution of decision power, enabling this discussion on societal and business levels. It is critical for digital services vendors to strategize and deliver the infrastructure and services to build sustainable, digital-first organizations.

In this fourth conference proceeding from IDC Nordic Directions 2022, Jan Horsager (research director, IDC Nordic) looks at the IT services industry through sustainability optics that do not include environmental sustainability. Looking at the Nordic IT industry landscape is looking at the evolution or transformation of IT services to digital services and the rest of the IT industry to a future of "everything as a service," or best described as Nordic digital markets. Sustainability issues are already on the agenda for Nordic digital services vendors:

Beyond 2022, market changes by demands from digital-first organizations will drive further transformation of the IT industry. Choosing strategies for partnering or mergers and acquisitions are important not only for business, but also for the development of organizations and employees. Digitally mature Nordic societies will be at the forefront of developing digital sovereignty to ensure innovation in digital public services as well as digital-first organizations. By 2023, digital services vendors must engage and integrate digital sovereignty in their digital trust approach. The four local markets of the Nordic region are still driven by a traditional industry culture toward 2024. However, uses cases will become more important in strategizing and take center stage beyond 2024.
