Abstract

This IDC Perspective highlights operational advancements that the University of Birmingham (UoB) has made in its sustainability journey. Following a slow start spanning over a decade, universities are finally launching ambitious connected, smart, and sustainable campus projects. In view of this trend, this report briefly discusses the key drivers of this transition and dives deep into the sustainability journey of the university to explore key interventions, processes, and technologies adopted and the key lessons from its journey so far.

"It is no longer enough for universities and colleges to view sustainability as an add-on to existing activities; it needs to be at the forefront of all that they do," said Rimal Likhari, research manager, IDC European Government Insights.
