Abstract

In August and September 2022, the IDC European Customer Insights and Analysis group conducted IDC’s European Industry Acceleration Survey, 2022. For the survey, IDC interviewed representatives of 1,500 organizations with 10+ employees across the continent.

IDC’s European Industry Acceleration Survey, 2022 is a landmark study that provides deep insight into European organizations’ digitalization efforts, exploring post-pandemic opportunities and reactions to currently volatile economic and political conditions — disrupted supply chains, growing inflation rates, the consequences of the Russia-Ukraine War, regulations, sustainability requirements, and new competitors.

The survey investigates the impacts of external forces and explores how organizations use technology to stay on track. It provides insights into business priorities and IT spending plans, correlates digital maturity and digitalization initiatives with IT architectures, and dives into the adoption of digital transformation use cases across industries. It also examines the transformation of business models and the roles of ecosystems, looks at the major reasons for skills gaps, and reveals how end users perceive a vendor’s capacity to support their digitalization plans.

The survey sample covers organizations from the U.K., Germany, France, Italy, Spain, the Netherlands, four Nordic countries (Sweden, Denmark, Norway, and Finland), Poland, the Czech Republic, and Romania. These 13 countries are responsible for more than 75% of the European economy (assessed in terms of the gross domestic product of 43 countries).

This end-user survey provides critical information for IDC research groups studying European business trends, IT trends, and IT purchasing patterns, as well as European organizations’ requirements and solution priorities. The survey results are analyzed by vertical market, company size, and line of business (LoB) and will become the basis of a series of demand-side reports to be published by IDC under the European Verticals: Use Cases and Strategies and European Digital Business Strategies services and under other select European industry-dedicated research services.
