Author: Judy Hanover
Abstract

This IDC Health Insights report discusses the growing importance of managing unstructured content, including images, in U.S. health systems' accountable and collaborative care strategies. Health systems are seeing a growing need for the capabilities of the application-independent clinical archive (AICA). According to Research Director Judy Hanover, "AICA is the next generation of vendor neutral archive (VNA) and provides a content management strategy for support healthcare organizations moving to accountable delivery. AICA will support the needs of existing VNA users and systems while offering healthcare providers additional capabilities to address the challenges posed by the exponential growth of unstructured healthcare data and the deepening need for population health management (PHM) and the patient-centered medical home (PCMH) in new business models." The report offers strategies for providers that want to adopt an AICA strategy and offers guidance for selecting and implementing VNA and AICA technologies.
