Japan Telecommunications Services Forecast, 2016–2020: WAN Connecting to Cloud

Author: Yoko Ono Senior Market Analyst, Communications, IDC Japan
Abstract

This study (a translation of the Japan document IDC #JPJ40601216) provides forecasts of connection numbers and revenues for the Japan major communications services market from 2015 to 2020. It also provides forecasts for five submarkets (enterprise WAN services, mobile data communications services, fixed broadband, VoIP, and fixed voice/ISDN), as well as market size forecasts for enterprise WAN services broken down into those for public cloud connections and those for commercial DC interconnections. IDC Japan Communications Senior Market Analyst Yoko Ono offers this opinion on the enterprise WAN services market: "The expanding use of public clouds is bringing about rapid changes in the Japan WAN services market. Carriers that have been able to spot and respond early to these changes have grown their revenues after customer needs have become clear. In a market that is changing as rapidly as this one, telecom carriers should avoid jumpy investments that ignore market maturity; but they also need to at least be on the side of what is driving the market."
