This IDC study is a translation of the Japanese document IDC #JPJ41777117, which reports on 3rd Platform spending results (2016) and forecasts (2017–2021) separately using a total of 21 fields of categorization: companies in 17 Japan industries and four types of non-companies — government agencies, municipalities, education, and general consumers. IT spending is further segmented into five categories based on the number of employees, with 3rd Platform spending forecast data listed by industry and number of employees. The backgrounds to these figures are then analyzed. "The question of how the implementation phase will proceed after proof-of-concept testing will be key to the further growth of the Japan 3rd Platform market. IT suppliers that can promote projects involving stakeholders, such as end users, suppliers, and organizations of multiple user companies, will gain competitive advantage in this market," said Naoko Iwamoto, senior market analyst, IDC Japan IT Spending Group.
