By: Mitsuhiro Iriya Research Manager, Software & Security, IDC Japan
Abstract
This IDC study is a translation of the Japanese document IDC #JPJ41787517. It presents the performance of the Japan software market in 2016 and its forecasts from 2017 to 2021. The strong market growth is expected to continue well after 2017. The next few years will bring considerable opportunities for IT suppliers to secure market opportunities and expand software and cloud businesses as the market is driven by new spending on software and cloud to support the new tax system and workstyle transformation, as well as the Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics that will be held in 2020. Thus, IDC believes that IT suppliers must provide their user companies with digital transformation (DX) realization utilizing software and cloud.
"The 3rd Platform has already contributed significantly to the software market growth. In the future, innovation accelerators, such as IoT and cognitive/artificial intelligence systems, will have considerable impact on the software market, which may bring new market opportunities to IT suppliers' software and cloud businesses. It is vital for IT suppliers to develop and provide software and cloud solutions that will be able to quickly realize enterprise DX while capturing market opportunities, such as the hosting of Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics and the implementation of workstyle transformation," says Mitsuhiro Iriya, research manager, Software and Security, IDC Japan.
